Chapter 1
When Katie Jensen discovered her boyfriend had checked into a hotel room with his ex-girlfriend, she spent the entire night sitting in the hotel lobby downstairs.
The next morning, she watched as her boyfriend, James—the usually indifferent captain—behaved like a compliant puppy around his ex, Pamela.
Seeing this, Katie's eyes welled up, and she decided to sever ties with him completely.
She called her twin sister.
"Maddie, in seven days, I'll marry Caleb Hacitt from the Hacitt family, instead of you."
Maddie Jensen's surprised voice came through the line. "Caleb's always been abroad. Nobody knows what he looks like, or even his height or weight. Are you sure you want to marry him in my place?"
Katie responded with a calm, "Yes," and explained, "Maddie, this is the marriage arrangement our families made for us when we were kids. You have someone you love, so let me take your place."
Her sister questioned, "But... don't you have a boyfriend?"
Katie sighed. "Not anymore."
Trusting the unspoken bond they shared as twins, Maddie accepted her decision without further questions and thanked her.
After ending the call, Katie wandered the streets of a Barcelona town in Spain, braving the chilly wind.
A month ago, James' ex-girlfriend Pamela was in a car accident and lost her memory.
James told Katie, "The doctor recommended that I relive our past relationship to help Pamela recover her memory."
This was when Katie discovered that her boyfriend had a childhood sweetheart ex-girlfriend.
As a woman, she naturally objected to James rekindling things with his ex.
But James reassured her, "If you're worried, you can come along and keep an eye on me."
James was Katie's first love, and they had been together for three years. She didn't want their relationship to end like this.
So, she accompanied him to Spain.
For a month, she observed James, Pamela, and their mutual friends revisit old memories.
Just a day ago, she overheard Pamela secretly telling someone, "I didn't lose my memory. I just want to win James back."
When Katie informed James, he didn't believe her and got upset.
"Katie, can you stop being jealous? If there was ever a chance for Pamela and me, we would have been married long ago."
James slammed the door shut and left.
Katie hurried after him, catching sight of him entering an unfamiliar hotel with Pamela.
By the time she regained her composure, Katie found herself on the beach.
There, James had donned a white captain's uniform and was standing face-to-face with his ex-girlfriend, Pamela.
Their mutual friends were loudly encouraging, "Kiss her! Kiss her..."
Just as James was about to lean in to kiss Pamela, he noticed Katie approaching.
He instinctively released Pamela's hand and stepped forward.
"Where did you go?" he asked.
"I looked for you last night," Katie replied deliberately.
James' expression shifted slightly. "You..."
But before he could continue, Katie cut him off. "Too bad I couldn't find you. Where were you?"
"I went out to buy something and then returned to the hotel," James lied effortlessly, feeling an inexplicable sense of relief.
Then he said, "I'm planning to pretend to marry Pamela."
Katie was taken aback. "What do you mean?"
James' lips parted slightly as he spoke. "I promised Pamela a grand wedding before, and I need to fulfill that promise."
He added, "It might help her regain her memory."
"Again with the memory recovery..." Katie thought.
A faint smile appeared on Katie's lips—people often feel like laughing when they're speechless.
Thinking she might not agree, James quickly continued, "Once she remembers, I'll introduce you to my parents, and then we'll get married..."
Before he could finish, Katie agreed right away.
"Okay."
James looked surprised, and she asked, "Is there anything else?"
"I need seven days to arrange the wedding. During this time, I hope we can keep our distance so she doesn't overthink things."
Hearing this, Katie clenched her fists but agreed without hesitation.
"Fine."
Chapter 2
James was in disbelief. Just the night before, Katie had been jealous—how was she so generous today?
Perhaps realizing he might have overreacted, James quietly said, "Thank you."
At that moment, a friend of James called out from afar, "James, it's time for the next step."
Without another word to Katie, James headed straight toward Pamela.
Standing not too far away, Katie overheard Pamela asking, "What's the next step?"
A mutual friend of James and Pamela responded in Spanish, "The next step is the wedding night festivities. Four years ago, you, James and the rest of us gathered here and celebrated early. Remember?"
Pamela's face turned a deep shade of red, spreading down to her neck.
The crowd began chanting in Spanish.
"Wedding night!"
"Wedding night!"
Curious, Katie asked one of their friends, "It's so lively—what exactly is the next step?"
The friend paused, keeping his expression composed as he answered, "It's just a little game."
He continued, "James and Pamela are in the past. Don't get it wrong, Katie."
Another friend chimed in, also in Spanish, "Why waste time on her? She’s just a junior tour guide who doesn’t even understand Spanish."
The first friend responded, "We can't let James deal with any domestic issues. He's going to marry Pamela soon, and then we won't have to deal with her anymore."
Katie glanced at the lively crowd, her voice so quiet, only she could hear it.
"Do you really think I'm clueless?" she said, also in Spanish.
Unable to watch any longer, Katie turned away and returned to the Hilton Hotel.
Perhaps because she had stayed up all night, she drifted into a deep sleep on the large bed.
When she awoke, it was already dark outside.
Katie was about to head downstairs for dinner.
As she stepped out, she saw James holding Pamela's hand as they returned to the hotel with their friends.
Pamela waved enthusiastically at Katie. "Katie, why are you back early?" she asked, stepping closer to take Katie's arm in a show of friendliness.
"James proposed to me! They say you're his best friend—you'll give us your blessing, right?"
All their friends held their breath, aware that Katie was James' official girlfriend.
Pamela's question made them anxious that Katie might lose her cool and expose everything, spoiling the moment.
Katie looked calmly at Pamela, then met James' anxious eyes and responded steadily, "Of course. I wish you an early birth of precious children, eternal love, and to never part again for the rest of your lives."
Chapter 3
When James heard this, he was slightly surprised.
Pamela blushed and replied, "Thank you."
She then said, "James, I'll go change my clothes first. You wait for me at the restaurant downstairs."
With that, Pamela headed back to her room.
Katie pushed through the crowd and went straight into the elevator, with James unexpectedly following her.
Inside, James asked coldly, "Why did you say that earlier?"
Katie looked at him and replied, "Didn't you say it's all just pretend? Just playing the part."
James turned away, ending the conversation.
When the elevator reached the restaurant floor, Katie stepped out first, chose a seat, and browsed the menu, ignoring her surroundings.
James sat beside her in silence.
Moments later, Pamela arrived.
"James." she called out. He stood up, took her hand naturally, and joined their friends at a large table.
"During the wedding night celebrations, James and Pamela seemed as bashful as newlyweds.
"More like ravenous wolves reunited after a long absence! Did you see the marks on Pamela's neck when she came out of the tent?" someone teased.
"James, how long have you been holding back?"
All their friends assumed Katie didn't understand Spanish, so they chatted openly in the language without restraint.
Pamela blushed, nestling deeper into James' embrace.
"Quit talking foolishness," she remarked.
James gave them a stern look and warned in Spanish, "Careful now. Don't cross the line."
"I know. Pamela is shy," someone added.
Hearing this, Katie gripped her water glass tightly.
At that moment, Pamela turned to her.
"Katie, James and I are short a bridesmaid for our wedding. Could you be our bridesmaid in a week?"
"No, I can't. I have plans in seven days," Katie quickly declined.
In a week, she would also be a bride herself and couldn't take on the role of someone else's bridesmaid.
Pamela pouted and playfully asked James, "What are we going to do? We're short on bridesmaids."
James tried to reassure her, saying, "It doesn't matter. For my wedding, as long as you're there, that's all that matters."
"James, you're such a flirt!"
"..."
Katie thought it was the worst meal she'd ever had.
After dinner, James walked Pamela to her room.
As Katie was about to leave, someone called her name.
"Ms. Jensen."
She turned to see it was Jessica Gorgli, Pamela's best friend.
Jessica approached her and said, "Ms. Jensen, you've seen it—Pamela is the one James wants to be with. Watching them together every day must be hard for you. Why not let go with some dignity?"
Katie looked at her calmly and responded, "If Pamela were truly the one James wanted, they wouldn't have broken up, and he wouldn't have pursued me three years ago."
With those words, she left the restaurant.
Jessica sneered behind her, "James pursued you because Pamela went abroad to study. You were just a tool for him to mend his broken heart. In James' eyes, he already has an ideal partner, so no one else, not even you, can compare. No matter how attached you are, James will never choose you in the end."
Katie didn't reply to being called clingy.
It was then she realized that James had sought her out three years ago only to heal his wounded heart.
The last bit of affection she held for him slowly faded away.
When she stepped into her room, her phone was ringing.
It was a 4GB file from Pamela, filled with photos, videos, voice messages, screenshots, and even a love letter.
All documenting James and Pamela's life together from four years ago.
1,896 photos, 578 videos, 452 voice messages, 1,029 screenshots, and a love letter!
Chapter 4
Not long after, Pamela sent another message.
"James gave me the secret document he's been holding onto for 1,580 days to help me regain my memory," she wrote.
"He claims they are evidence of our love."
She added, "There's also a love letter he's been writing since the day we broke up, lasting four entire years. Let me share it with you."
Katie opened the photos first. They were all group pictures featuring James and Pamela.
In those images, James was beaming with joy, his eyes reflecting true happiness.
Katie couldn't help but recall a time when she asked James for a photo together, but he had said, "I don’t like taking photos. You can take one alone."
She then moved on to the videos.
In them, James was bursting with youthful energy, a stark contrast to the composed man she knew.
He acted playfully, making Pamela laugh.
"I have two small cakes with me. If you can guess how many there are, I'll give myself to you," he joked.
Katie recalled an online saying, "When a man truly loves a woman, he behaves like a child around her."
It seemed to be true.
She opened the love letter and read the first line.
"Honey, I miss you so much."
Katie continued reading slowly.
"May 20, 2022. I climbed Mount Rainier, the place we always wanted to visit together. They say couples who climb Mount Rainier together will stay together forever. Sadly, the person with me wasn’t you."
Katie remembered she was the one who climbed Mount Rainier with James that day. She read further.
"Christmas 2022. As I held her, my mind was filled with images of you in a Christmas outfit. I don’t know how long it will take to forget you—maybe a while, maybe forever."
Katie's chest tightened.
That Christmas, she and James had been intimate. All the while, he had been thinking of Pamela.
"December 31, 2023. Instead of celebrating New Year's Eve with her, I took a flight to Switzerland and visited the enchanting town of Lauterbrunnen, the place we had once explored together."
Katie was shocked. On that New Year's Eve, she had prepared an elaborate meal by noon, but James had unexpectedly mentioned he had to go out for something important.
She assumed it was work-related, never imagining he would go to a place he had shared with Pamela...
Katie continued to read.
"February 14, 2024. Another dull Valentine's Day without you. She spent the day with me, but I can't help feeling I shouldn't part from her, even though I'll never forget you."
On this Valentine's Day, Katie had taken a special leave to be with him.
Yet, to him, it was just another uneventful Valentine's Day without Pamela.
As she kept reading, she found the letter was quite lengthy—longer than all the days James had spent with her in the last three years.
The time seemed to stretch even longer than the days James had spent with her over the past three years.
Katie wasn't sure how long she'd been engrossed in her reading when a noise at the door broke her focus.
She quickly turned off her phone screen as James entered, looking exhausted.
"Still awake?" he asked.
Katie responded with a soft hum.
"I thought you weren't coming back tonight," she mentioned.
James moved closer. "If I don't come back, where else would I sleep?"
Since they were officially a couple, James had been discreetly staying over at her place.
"All right, I'm going to take a shower," he said, placing his phone on the nightstand to charge before heading into the bathroom.
The steady sound of running water filled the room, while James' WhatsApp notifications pinged incessantly.
Katie glanced over and noticed a message from Pamela.
"Did we really sleep together before? Why do I still feel nervous when I touch you now?"
Katie gripped her hands tightly, her fingertips pressing hard into her palms.
Fifteen minutes later, James came out of the shower and noticed Katie sitting on the edge of the bed, her eyes slightly swollen.
Assuming it was from the emotional events of the past few days, James stepped closer.
"Have you been crying?"
Katie slowly unclenched her reddened hands, looked up at James, and composed herself.
"Yes... I just read a touching love story."
After a pause, she added, "Didn't you say you needed to keep your distance from me while Pamela recovers her memory? If you stay with me now, she might become suspicious if she finds out. Go book another room. We should stay apart for the next few days."
James' dark eyes scrutinized her words, but he agreed.
"Katie, after this fake marriage, I'll sort things out with Pamela."
Katie saw him walk away until he vanished from view, an involuntary bitter smile forming on her lips.
There was no point in explaining anything.
This time, he had gone too far. They would never be together again.
Chapter 5
After James left, Katie gradually drifted off to sleep.
The next morning, after freshening up and stepping out, Katie entered the hotel lobby—only to be approached by James.
"Katie, Pamela happened to see the wedding dress we had customized on my phone, and she loves it. Can you give the dress to her?"
Before Katie could reply, she noticed Pamela in the distance, already wearing the wedding dress, walking toward them.
They had already claimed the dress, yet they were still seeking her approval.
Katie met James' gaze and replied with a single word. "Sure."
She had already decided to move on from James—what difference did a used wedding dress make?
For some reason, Katie's quick agreement left James uneasy.
Before he could inquire further, Pamela joined him.
"James, what were you discussing with Katie?"
James shifted his focus back to Pamela, saying gently, "It's nothing."
Pamela embraced him tightly and warned, "Don't betray me by flirting with other women, or I'll never speak to you again."
Meanwhile, her best friend Jessica stepped in and spoke loudly enough for Katie to hear.
"Pamela, don't scare our James. Everyone knows that when you and James argued years ago, you disappeared for the night with a dead phone, and James went crazy searching for you. He even got into a car accident."
Upon hearing this, Katie felt both pathetic and ridiculous.
During her three-year relationship with James, they had their share of arguments too.
She had stormed off more than once, yet James never chased after her.
She was always the one to relent and apologize first.
This was the clear distinction between love and indifference.
"Those are old stories," James' voice pulled Katie back to reality.
He added, "Katie, let's go to the beach for a barbecue later. I remember you love grilled food."
Before she could respond, Jessica interrupted again.
"James, you must be mistaken. The one who loves barbecues the most is Pamela. You two used to take me along as a third wheel for barbecues all the time."
Hearing this, Katie spoke slowly, "You guys go ahead. I don't like barbecues anymore."
There were only six days left.
She didn't want to pretend to go along with his act anymore.
On her way to the restaurant, Katie received a call from her sister.
"The wedding dress and everything else is ready. They've been delivered to my villa in Spain. In six days, you'll be waiting there for the wedding procession."
"Okay," said Katie.
After breakfast, Katie spent the rest of the morning in her hotel room. In the afternoon, she took a solitary walk along the beach.
She stood on a reef near the shore, gazing at the sea under the setting sun.
Not sure how much time had passed, she noticed the waves crashing against the reef grew stronger.
Just as she was about to leave, Pamela appeared beside her, seemingly out of nowhere.
"Ms. Jensen, you must have realized by now that I didn't lose my memory, right?"
Katie looked at her in confusion as Pamela continued, "When I revisited my past relationship with James, I realized I can't live without him at all."
"So, what are you trying to say?" Katie asked.
"I have to stay by his side," Pamela said, enunciating each word clearly.
Katie didn't mince words. "Don't worry. I don't want him anymore. You two can be together."
Pamela obviously didn't believe her.
"James isn't just a pilot—he's the heir to the Jimmerson Group. Would you really be so kind as to give him up to me? Only one of us can stay by his side."
As soon as the words fell, Pamela shoved Katie hard.
Katie's eyes flickered with surprise. She instinctively stepped sideways to dodge.
Caught off guard by her own momentum, Pamela's body lurched forward beyond the reef's edge, and with a splash, she fell into the sea.
Chapter 6
"Help!"
Pamela's cries for help drew the attention of people nearby.
James immediately rushed into the sea, ignoring the waves, and pulled her to safety.
On the shore, his eyes were red-rimmed, filled with tension.
"Pamela!"
Pamela opened her eyes slowly, her face pale, and looked at him.
"James, Katie told me she's your girlfriend and everything you did was to deceive me. Is that true?"
"Of course not," James froze, quickly denying it.
Pamela glanced triumphantly at Katie in the distance, then choked out, "After our wedding, let's go back home and get our marriage certificate right away, okay? I want to be your legal wife so no one can come between us."
Hearing this, the people around them all turned to look at James.
Katie watched as James kissed the back of Pamela's hand, then replied without hesitation, solemnly.
"All right, we'll get the marriage certificate as soon as we return home."
Pamela broke into an instant smile, hugging him tightly.
***
Katie didn't know how she managed to return to the hotel.
Half an hour later, James also came back.
When he pushed open the door, he saw Katie sitting on the edge of the bed, looking as if she had lost her soul.
It was the first time James had seen Katie so vulnerable, and his heart involuntarily tightened with a twinge of guilt.
"Katie, I'll stay here with you tonight and won't go to Pamela."
Katie snapped back to reality. Seeing that his clothes were still wet, she was about to ask if he wanted to change when she heard him add, "But you shouldn't have told Pamela the truth."
"Told her the truth?"
Katie looked straight at him. "I didn't say anything."
"Are you still lying?" James blurted out the words.
"Lying?"
Katie stared at him in disbelief.
Those who hurt you will indeed never stop at just one injury.
"Perhaps feeling his words had been too harsh, James added,
"Katie, just wait five more days. After five days, everything will be over."
"Wait..."
Katie wouldn't wait any longer. In five days, they would go their separate ways, and she would never act alongside James again.
Seeing her silence, James took out an elegant gift box from behind his back.
"A gift for you. Do you like it?"
It was the first time he had ever given Katie a gift.
She suddenly wondered what he had chosen for her.
Opening the box, she found a pair of size 37 high-heeled shoes.
At that moment, Katie suddenly laughed.
"James, I wear size 36 shoes."
She added. "Love grows profound through differences. These past days, I've seen your history with your ex-girlfriend—you sent her a different bouquet of flowers every day, size 37 high heels, lipsticks from various brands, and custom-made necklaces and bracelets..."
Katie pointed to her empty wrists and neck, enunciating each word clearly. "Actually everyone wants to be favored and preferred. I'm no exception."
James fell silent.
For the first time, he realized that after three years together, he hardly knew Katie at all.
She continued, "James, you must be tired today. Go rest."
James stood up. "I'll have someone buy a new pair right away. Wait for me."
After he left, Katie closed the door.
That night, James did not return.
Katie didn't wait for him and fell asleep alone.
The next day, as she went to the restaurant for breakfast, she overheard James chatting in Spanish with several of Pamela's friends.
"Do you think James likes his current girlfriend more, or does he love Pamela more?"
"Obviously Pamela. To be honest, James has known for a long time that Pamela regained her memory. He's just using her 'amnesia' as an excuse to do all the things he's always wanted to do with her."
Chapter 7
As they spoke, the group glanced in Katie's direction several times.
Seeing that she showed no reaction, they continued chatting.
"Isn't James being a bit too much? He already has a girlfriend—this is basically cheating.”
"James and Katie aren't married anyway. In his heart, she's probably just a fling.”
"Besides, our James is the heir to Jimmerson Airlines. How could a small-time tour guide like Katie be worthy of him?”
Hearing these words, Katie finally understood why James hadn't trusted her. He'd known all along that Pamela's amnesia was fake.
It turned out, she'd been the one kept in the dark all along.
Unable to bear it any longer, Katie walked toward them and said to them word by word.
"Are you done? Let me make this clear now—I won't be with James anymore. And it's not that I'm unworthy of James—it's that he's unworthy of me.”
Then, in fluent Spanish, she declared, "Let me make it clear, I'm done with James. It's not about me not being good enough for him—it's quite the opposite."
Katie spoke these three sentences in Spanish.
As she turned to leave, she ignored the group's stunned expressions.
Once she was gone, their murmurs picked up again.
"How does a tour guide from America speak Spanish...?"
"Has she been understanding everything we've said these past few days?"
***
After that day, Katie's friends avoided her for four days straight.
They didn't dare tell James that Katie knew Spanish.
James seemed to have forgotten about getting a new gift for Katie. He was busy helping Pamela with pre-wedding preparations.
Katie wasn't bothered because she was busy trying on wedding dresses—though she did so without her groom by her side.
The day before the wedding, Katie received another call from her sister.
"Katie, you're marrying into the Hacitt family tomorrow. If you have any second thoughts, it's not too late."
Katie gripped her phone tightly. "Maddie, I won't regret it. I've made up my mind. It's just the two of us in our family—you and me. We need the support of other families. Marriage was never really about love."
Her sister sighed.
"I'm sorry..."
"Don't be. Marrying someone powerful and wealthy is more important than marrying for love," Katie said firmly.
At that moment, a familiar voice sounded from behind. "What did you say?"
Katie ended the call and turned to find James standing there.
He frowned slightly, his eyebrows furrowed. "Is that how you perceive me? As powerful and wealthy?"
Katie realized he had misunderstood, but she chose not to explain.
"Why are you here? Shouldn't you be with Pamela?" she asked.
Instead of responding, James handed her a new present.
"Here's a gift for you," he said quietly
He added. "Katie, I always thought you were different from other women, but now I see you're just the same. The 'preference' you mentioned—what you really want is money, isn't it? If you need money in the future, just contact my assistant directly. There's no need for subtlety."
With that, James left the room.
After three years together, Katie was taken aback by how James now perceived her. She picked up the gift, planning to give it back to him.
But just as she was about to leave, she overheard James talking on the phone in Spanish.
"Of course, I'm anxious. Pamela has been my dream since I was young, and now I can finally marry her.
"According to my family's traditions, the bride and groom shouldn't see each other the day before the wedding.
"But I really want to see her right now..."
As he spoke, James hurried toward the door.
For some reason, Katie found herself trailing after him, almost instinctively.
James, who typically spent his time at bars and clubs, decided to visit an amusement park for a change. His friends were there, along with Pamela.
As soon as he spotted Pamela, he eagerly approached and embraced her.
Katie watched from afar, unable to catch their conversation.
However, a saying came to her mind.
"Men draw a line. They bring their girlfriends to bars and clubs, but their potential wives to places like Happy Valley or Disneyland."
Chapter 8
James took Pamela for a ride on the Ferris wheel.
As their cabin reached the top, a "bang" echoed, and brilliant fireworks lit up the sky.
At that very moment, a video was sent to Katie's WhatsApp group chat showing James saying, "I, James, will always love Pamela."
When James and Pamela got off the Ferris wheel, they spotted Katie from afar.
James immediately released Pamela's hand and approached Katie, ready to explain himself.
Pamela also stepped forward and spoke first, "Katie, I'm sorry you had to see this. I suggested we shouldn't meet today, but James insisted on meeting me."
She added, "But being with someone you love brings true happiness. Katie, do you have someone you care about?"
Katie glanced at James before answering, "No."
James suddenly felt a wave of panic and told Pamela, "We're getting married tomorrow, so we shouldn't see each other for the next few hours. Let me take you back."
"All right."
After dropping Pamela off at the hotel, James shared a car ride with Katie.
He glanced at her and couldn't resist asking, "Why did you say you don't have anyone you like earlier?"
Katie responded calmly, "It was just a casual remark. It's not important."
"Not important..." Assuming Katie was upset, James lowered his pride for the first time.
"You've had a tough time these past few days. Even as my girlfriend, you've had to constantly compromise.
"Once things with Pamela are settled, I'll devote myself to you completely."
Katie glanced down and said, "Let's talk about this next time."
When James got back to the hotel, he tried to follow Katie into her room.
But she stopped him. "We're both really tired today. Let's just rest. Remember, you have to be the groom tomorrow."
And tomorrow, she would also be a bride.
Feeling reassured that she still cared about him.
James said, "All right. If you don’t want to go tomorrow, just stay here and rest. I’ll come find you once it’s done."
"Okay."
With that, Katie closed the door.
She began by packing everything she had bought in Spain.
Then she sat at the table, picked up a pen, and wrote in Spanish on a blank sheet of paper.
"James, I've come to understand that honesty doesn't always mean feelings are returned. It's better to walk in the rain than cling to a broken umbrella. I once thought I was loved. Consider these past three years my gift to you. I’m letting you go."
Katie set the pen aside and proceeded to print out the romantic photos Pamela had sent, along with the chat screenshots and the four-page confession letter.
She stacked the thick pile of papers neatly on the table.
She discarded the only gift James had ever given her into the trash, then grabbed her luggage and left the Hilton Hotel without a second thought.
She traveled straight to her sister's Eden Villa in Barcelona.
The following morning, at 7 a.m., the makeup team showed up punctually to give Katie an exquisite bridal makeover.
The maid assisted her in donning a Valentino haute couture wedding gown.
At 9 a.m., the butler informed Katie, "Ms. Jensen, the wedding car to escort the bride is here."
***
At the Hilton Hotel, by 8:30 a.m., James had changed into his suit and was repeatedly trying to reach Katie, but she never picked up.
His best man suggested, "James, it's nearly nine. If you can't reach her, let it go. No woman would be kind enough to watch her boyfriend marry someone else. Let's go pick up the bride instead."
James felt a twinge of unease. "All right, let's go get the bride."
He headed downstairs and climbed into the lead wedding car. The procession moved out to fetch Pamela.
As they traveled along Passeig de Gràcia in Barcelona, the medieval architecture lining the street was stunningly beautiful.
However, James was preoccupied, frequently glancing at his phone. Katie still hadn't returned his calls.
He opened their WhatsApp conversation and typed.
"Katie, after today's wedding, no matter if Pamela has really regained her memory, I'll clarify everything with her. Then I'll focus on being with you."
He kept sending messages to Katie, but they all went unanswered.
Suddenly, the car began to slow down.
The driver said, "Mr. Jimmerson, there's road control ahead... I wonder what's happening. Wow, another procession of luxury cars is escorting a bride. What a unique day today! Wait! License plate A9999—how did a car with a New York plate end up in Spain?"
Upon hearing this, James quickly rolled down the window and looked out.
As the two cars passed each other, he saw clearly that in the wedding car opposite, wearing a snow-white wedding dress—was Katie!
